Housewarming Ceremony Held at China Institute in New York

World Zen Art Center Andrew reports
China Institute, located at 40 Rector Street in New York, hosted a magnificent housewarming ceremony on September 12, 2015, starting at 11:00 am. The captivating Kung Fu performance captivated a large crowd, attracting many parents with their children who came to inquire about the cultural activities available. The newly-updated classrooms hosted various engaging activities such as dance, Tai Chi, Chinese cooking classes, and demonstration sessions. Mr. YiXiong Gu from the World Zen Art Center was also invited to showcase his Zen brush painting skills. Accompanied by serene Zen music, Mr. Gu mesmerized the audience with his landscape paintings, creating a tranquil ambiance. Both adults and young children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and displayed a keen interest in Chinese culture. It was a lively and festive occasion!

China Institute, founded almost 90 years ago, has now moved to its new premises in downtown Manhattan, quadrupling its space from the original 9,000 square feet to 52,000 square feet. This move holds great historical significance. The expanded facility will greatly enhance its capacity to serve and attract a larger audience interested in learning about Chinese culture. Against the backdrop of the global spotlight on Sino-US relations, China Institute plays a crucial role as a bridge for East-West cultural exchanges. According to the information available on China Institute’s website, it is a non-partisan, non-profit cultural and educational organization established in 1926. It was the first organization in America to promote both traditional and modern Chinese culture, acting as a window for Americans to gain a deeper understanding of China. Notably, Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang was invited by China Institute to perform in the United States, astonishing the Western world with the essence of Chinese culture. In the past, China Institute also served as a home for Chinese students and scholars who came to the United States to study Western culture. Over the years, China Institute has developed and established signature programs in education, art exhibitions, and various cultural lectures, allowing Westerners to deepen their understanding of China.

This is my initial encounter with China Institute, and I wish them even greater success in the future!
